Business Problem - Global Publishing

A US manufacturer of medical devices with operations in the USA and Norway needed to reduce the time to market of its medical imaging devices in world markets.

Solution

The content-management team developed an MS Help application for a 3D ultrasound imaging device. Using XML and XSLT, the application is built automatically from an SGML database in more than 20 languages. This reduces cost and time-to-market. The standards-based approach is flexible, and allows other types of output, such as PDF. Annual savings in translation costs exceeded US$2 million. View MS Help Powerpoint Presentation

Business Problem - Single Source

A US manufacturer of medical devices needed to improve the productivity of more than 6,000 field service engineers working with a variety of imaging devices.

Solution

The content-management team assisted in the development of a single-source content-management pilot to improve the structure, management and delivery of service documentation. The team developed a content-management framework, validated requirements, evaluated vendor proposals, developed DTDs, developed a prototype user interface for CD-ROM delivery, integrated Arbortext E3 with Empolis Omega, and provided management consulting.

Business Problem - FrameMaker XML

A US manufacturer of clinical devices needed to migrate from unstructured FrameMaker 6.n to structured FrameMaker XML 7.0.

Solution

The content-management team assisted in the development of a legacy conversion program using Omnimark, and the development of a multilingual FrameMaker 7 application. The application included DTD, EDD, templates and custom dlls for publishing in more than 20 languages. Training and documentation was also provided.
